One Of My Favorite Indian Songs – “Tunak Tunak Tun” By Daler Mehndi.

(The video is at the bottom of the page if you want to skip the reading)

First a little about me and my and the long path that lead me to this song.
I am not indian nor have I ever been to India. But Indian people and their culture have been a big part of my life for about the past 10 to 12 years.
I went through a breakup with my ex-wife and lost everything, house, cars, motorcycle and a job I planed on retiring at. Basically I became homeless for a while because of it. With no family close by and no money or a place to stay, I started going around on foot to little mom an pop motels/hotels trying to convince the owners or managers to let me do some work around the place in order to work off the price of a room.
It’s supper hard to get in with Indian people, but if they do let you in to their world, you will find they are some of the nicest people you could ever want to meet. I lost count of how many I asked to let me work in exchange for a room. Finally found one Indian man who was willing to let me do some maintenance work in exchange for a room. He worked me 12 hours a day 7 days a week with out pay in order to work off a $45.oo a day room. 12 hours a day, with out some kind of pay just for a $45.oo room was not going to work for very long, but I had no other options at the time so I took the deal. After I was in the room for a couple of days I convinced him that 12 hours a day didn’t leave me time to look for a real job, so he start paying me $20.oo a day on top of the room so I could afford basic survival needs, food, personal hygiene items and so on. After about 2 months of doing that, I convinced him to let me start working at the front desk here and their checking in guest. I did that for a couple months. Long story short, the motel was going to be sold so I would back on the street again. Indians have a vast network of friends and or family no matter where they are. So he gave me a piece of paper with an address and a name on it and told me to go talk to his friend (which he called in advance). I showed up to the address, talk for about 20 to 30 minutes to his friend who managed another hotel across town. He hired me on the spot, a little while later he told me he didn’t know why he hired me on the spot and that he had never done that before in his life. If you knew him you would know that’s not a joke.
I have been with him ever since, even to this day we are like Brothers and Family.
Saying all that to say this, I don’t remember how I came across this song but once I heard it, I was hooked. The video is at the bottom of this page. Enjoy
